Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know by Adam Grant Organizational psychologist Adam Grant is an expert on opening other people's minds, examines the critical art of rethinking: learning to question your opinions and open other people's minds, which can position you for excellence at work and wisdom in life. Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn. We surround ourselves with people who agree with our conclusions, when we should be gravitating toward those who challenge our thought process. The result is that our beliefs get brittle long before our bones. We think too much like preachers defending our sacred beliefs, prosecutors proving the other side wrong, and politicians campaigning for approval - and too little like scientists searching for truth. Intelligence is no cure, and it can even be a curse: being good at thinking can make us worse at rethinking. The brighter we are, the blinder to our own limitations we can become.

UNEMPLOYMENT AND UNHAPPINESS AT WORK: Household survey By David Francisco Camargo HernĂĄndez Work is something fundamental in the life of people and those who have it for their fortune allow them to achieve a certain lifestyle. Individuals in the workforce can find economic support at work, but at the same time a source of motivation or demotivation, satisfaction or dissatisfaction and happiness or unhappiness at work.Unemployment, on the other hand, generates feelings of failure, loss of aspirations and failed projects, even causing individuals to lose pleasure in life. The book presents the reader with field research carried out virtually by collaborators of the foundation with some people who, in the situation of the pandemic, were waiting to know if they will keep or lose their jobs, making an analysis of the fear of unemployment, and happiness vs. unhappiness at work. Some typologies are also presented that refer to the previous aspect and, finally, some conclusions are presented that can be of some use to the companies, to take measures to preserve the human capital that is determinant to increase the productivity and the enterprise development.

"Stress and Health at the Workplace-A Review of the Literature" by Mariam SohailMariam, SohailAbdul,ChaudharyRehman (Journal of Business Studies Quarterly 6(2015):3) This review of the work stress literature provides us detailed information about work stress, its reasons and its physical and psychological effects on the health of an employee. Famous stress models or theories are evaluated critically to explain the work stress and its health related outcomes. Our notes: The DCS model was proposed by Peter Warr in 1987 as a model for studying job stress. The model divides work stress into three dimensions: Demand: The mental, physical, and emotional commitment required by a job. A job with a high psychological load can bring great stress to employees. Control: The degree of control that employees have over the content, progress, and method of their work. Jobs with high job control reduce stress levels in employees. Social Support: The support that an employee receives from work colleagues, supervisors, and family and friends. Jobs with high social support help employees cope with stress.

"Linking job crafting to work engagement: the mediating role of organizational happiness" by Mohammed Yasin Ghadi (January 2024Management Research Review) This article discusses the relationship between job crafting, organizational happiness, and work engagement in the United Arab Emirates. The study finds that job crafting has a positive effect on both organizational happiness and work engagement. The study also finds that organizational happiness partially mediates the relationship between job crafting and work engagement. This suggests that job crafting can lead to increased organizational happiness, which in turn leads to increased work engagement. The authors recommend that HR professionals develop programs and training workshops to help employees craft their jobs. Our notes: Self-determinism (SDT) is a theory of human motivation and personality development. It was proposed by American psychologists Edward L. Deci and Richard M. Ryan in the early 1980s. According to the SDT, humans are born with three basic psychological needs: Autonomy: People have the right to choose and control their own actions. Competence: The perception that one is capable of completing tasks and achieving goals. Relatedness: People develop close, trusting, and supportive relationships with others. SDT believes that when these basic needs are met, people feel more motivated, energized, and fulfilled. Conversely, when these basic needs are threatened, people feel powerless, meaningless, and defeated. SDT divides motivation into intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation refers to the activities that people do out of personal interests and preferences. Extrinsic motivation refers to the activities that people engage in in order to obtain an external reward or avoid punishment. SDT believes that intrinsic motivation is more beneficial to personal development and well-being than extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation can help people improve their skills, gain a sense of accomplishment, and build a positive self-concept. Extrinsic motivations can cause people to feel stressed, anxious, and dissatisfied.
